With reference to your letter of the 6th October No. 48410/23 relative to the vacancy for a First Class Lighthouse Keeper in Hong Kong, I have the honour to inform

V you that we asked the Elder Brethen, Trinity House, whether

and they could recommend any candidates for this vacancy,

If

I enclose copies of two letters which we have received from them, recommending Mr. H. Fishburn for the post. the Secretary of State is prepared to agree to the conditions formulated in the letters we conclude that, as Mr. Fishburn is a permanent Government servant, arrange- ments would be made by your Department for his secondment to the Colonial Service, and that it would not be necessary for him to sign an engagement agreement as indicated in your letter under reference.

2. I may add that, as the information furnished by the Colonial Government in connection with this vacancy was not complete, we telegraphed to the Colony for some further particulars and I enclose, for record in your Department a copy of the reply relating to quarters and

passages.

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Whh bichhast

for Crown Agents.
